Twisted Value 5 Song 7" (Weasel Records 1985)
I've been sitting on this one for a while now but work and moving have taken up the majority of my spare time from doing too much with records. The neglect has been driving me crazy but I finally have a break which means catching up on recent acquisitions and getting reacquainted with some old standbys like this one. Now, I'm not a big fan of their name because it sounds like a modern day Nu Metal band, to me at least, but their sound couldn't be farther from that. Twisted Value released this one and only 7" in 1985 out of Fort Wayne Indiana. Their location surprised me a bit as I would have guessed they were from the East Coast, maybe Florida based off their sound. That just makes me like the record even more knowing that they were from what was most likely a non existent scene. I really don't know much else about the record or band other than an insert exists which unfortunately my copy is missing. Out of the 5 songs, H20 is my favorite. The crude lyrics and fuzzed out guitar really put it over for me. The song is about turning your faucet on and having shit pour out instead of water. Ya, I know, who hasn't had that happen to them? The song I'm Sick Of You is a close 2nd with a nice mellow intro which quickly turns into a blown out assault lyrically and musically. For some reason, I have a feeling the band may have been a one off studio job. Hopefully, this post will fish out some much needed info and maybe even that insert for me.
SIDE A
Song 1. Legal Murder
Song 2. I'm Sick Of You
SIDE B
Song 3. Social Outcast
Song 4. H2O
Song 5. You Give Me Lice

This record's been in the dark for too long! Gotta love the relentless monotony!!
ReplyDeleteI recently found a Twisted Value demo tape, titled "Sounds From the Pseudo Pit" randomly at a record store here in Portland, OR. It has Legal Murder on it, so I'm thinking it might pre-date this 7". 13 tracks in total.
ReplyDeletePseudo Pit came a year later. I should know, Rubie Casanova (James McMillan) is my son's Uncle....I was there and wrote part of "Meaningless Task"
DeleteWow, I would really like to hear it. Do you have any way of ripping it? If so, can you send it go me?
ReplyDeleteThere was an issue of MRR where the reviewer said that this came from Coldwater Michigan not IN. I remember reading that but can't seem to find that info now...any help?
ReplyDeleteHmmm? I just assumed they were out of Indiana because of the recording location printed on the hub. I would love to see that review, did the reviewer like the record?
ReplyDeleteNope....Twisted Value is from Coldwater Michigan. I should know.....I was there!
DeleteWhat email address can I reach you at?
ReplyDeleteThe band is definitely from coldwater... I have more info if needed. I knew the band personally... been to parties with them.
DeleteAnyone who knows them also know of the bag hat.
DeletePlease contact me somehow. James McMillian (Rubie Casanova) Has been trying to get me a copy of this and their cassette for years. As I stated I am "Family" as he is my son's Uncle. Please....help out a fellow Schmangglord!
ReplyDeleteDoes Jim remember the "bag hat"
DeleteHe gave me a copy shortly after production in Coldwater. Does he remember eddie gustapo ?
The band consisted of "Rubie Casanova" "Death Lee ill" and "Todd Bag" They were far from a Studio one off. They were a group of hard working, hard playing, hard partying, Cult Movie and Comic Book fans. One Year they even played the Coldwater Michigan "Sister City Festival" where Sam Sherbine, Chelli Hanna and Myself were the only ones dancing! I even wrote a line to their song "Meaningless Task" and recorded a song with them (That was never released) Called "Son of Sam I Am" James McMillian (Rubie Casanova) is my son's Uncle and has been looking for copies of their two recordings for years to burn me copies. Any other information about Twisted Value, their recordings or their legendary parties, just let me know.
